I want to make friends of Democratic Talk Radio aware of a great addition to non-Republican Right talk radio in Pennsylvania.

Charles Showalter is hosting a great new show Monday-Friday on KFB 770AM from noon to 1pm. The show is called The Union Edge Talk Radio. The studio line is 412-829-7100.

Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) member and former Navy pilot Jan Donatelli is running for the position left vacant by White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel in the 5th Congressional District of Illinois. A long-time advocate for the rights of working people, improving Air Traffic Control systems, and researching solar radiation hazards for aircrew and passengers, Jan Donatelli has received the endorsement of the AFA-CWA Political/Legislative Committee. AFA- CWA Endorses Jan Donatelli for Congress
Primary Election: March 3, 2009

The special primary election to fill former Congressman Rahm Emanuel’s seat is this Tuesday March 3, 2009. The Association of Flight Attendants – CWA (AFA-CWA) has endorsed and urges you to support fellow union member Jan Donatelli for Congress in the Illinois 5th Congressional District.

Early voting started Monday February 16 in the district, which includes much of the North and Northwest sides of Chicago, as well as suburbs southeast of O’Hare International Airport.

Residents of Cook County can still early vote at the Downtown location: Clerk’s Downtown Office, 69 West Washington St, 5th Floor, Chicago IL 60602. Hours for early voting are Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Saturday: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm and Sunday: 9:00 am – noon.

Early voting for Chicago County Residents ends February 26. Polling places will be open on Election Day
Polling places for all 5th Congressional District precincts in Chicago are to be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Any eligible voters registered in the 5th Congressional District who are
in the door of the polling place by 7 p.m. are allowed to vote.
On Election Day, registered voters may cast a ballot only at the polling place assigned to the precinct where the voter is registered. To find your polling location, verify that you are registered to vote and download a sample ballot, Cook County residents can visit www.voterinfonet.com and Chicago County residents can find visit www.chicagoelections.com

Jan graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1982 then entered the United States Navy as a commissioned officer. In the Navy, Jan became a trailblazer for women when she earned her wings as a pilot. She rose to Aircraft Commander, and then to Mission Commander. Upon completion of her military service Jan was hired as a commercial airline pilot for a major carrier where she became an active member of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). While at ALPA Jan became an inspired union activist and worked for the betterment of airline workers and their families. As a member of Congress Jan will work to expand rights of workers to organize, for quality healthcare, improving the Air Traffic Control system and work to protect airline workers and passengers in the air.

The AFA-CWA Political/Legislative Policy Committee endorsed Jan based on her union experience and her stance on our issues. Jan is committed to protect domestic airline jobs. On outsourcing, Jan trumpets “NO relaxation of cabotage, NO majority foreign ownership, NO outsourcing of aircrews”. Jan understands the need for meaningful healthcare reform. “How can United Airlines, for example (my home town airline) truly compete on an even playing field with British Airways, which has minimal or no healthcare costs?”

Jan is committed to increased aircraft security measures including increased screening of checked bags and cargo as well as mandatory security training for Flight Attendants. “…the current state of F/A security training is a travesty.” As a former pilot Jan understands that qualification for the Family and Medical Leave Act must be corrected so that flight crew members can take advantage of this federal right.
