Labor historian Charlie McCollester and retired SEIU vice president Rosemary Trump talk about a new historical marker to be unveiled in Pittsburgh this weekend. Charlie describes the story of Simon Girty, a Scots-Irish boy who was taken during a raid and raised by Seneca women, and subsequently fought for the British in an attempt to preserve his adopted heritage.  As the country discusses the meaning of patriotism this week, Charlie asks, “What is the role of memory and historic record? Why should we be concerned about what has happened in the past?” And what meaning does it have in the present?
